Date: Wednesday, May 22, 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Presented by: Alison Shea, MD, PhD, MSc, FRCSC, NCMP
Cannabis is the most common recreational substance used during pregnancy, and with the recent legalization in October 2018, there is concern that use will increase among pregnant and lactating mothers. In this presentation, Dr. Alison Shea, leading expert from Mount Sinai Hospital’s Perinatal Mental Health Program, will outline studies in both animal and human cohorts exposed to cannabis in utero and review recent studies examining breast milk concentrations of cannabis. Tips for talking with patients and a harm reduction approach will also be discussed.
